Baseball Brawl of the Week: Nolan Ryan vs. Robin Ventura - 8/4/1993

August 4th 1993, the day that Nolan Ryan solidified himself as an all-time badass. At the ripe old age of 46 Ryan was not only still pitching in the Majors, but looking to dish out a good old fashioned beat down too. After Ryan beamed the White Sox Robin Ventura, the 26 year old charged the mound only to be met with an atomic headlock and 6 textbook uppercuts courtesy of Ryan before Pudge Rodriguez separated the two. Both dugouts cleared and a mosh pit ensued - even Bo Jackson got involved in the action. Hindsight is 20/20 but I would bet the mortgage that Robin Ventura regrets charging that mound every day of his life. The result of the fight is indisputable; Ryan took Ventura behind the woodshed and taught him a lesson. Few things in life are more humiliating than getting your ass whooped by a balding 46 year old on national television. Here are a few facts about Nolan Ryan to put in perspective how old 46 is in the professional sports world:

- Nolan Ryan pitched his first no hitter in 1973, 20 years before the Ventura fight

- Nolan Ryan had pitched an entire Major League Season (1966) before Ventura was born (1967)

- Ryan had a 22 year old son at the time of the fight

- Nolan Ryan had his number (30) retired by the Los Angeles Angels a year before the fight (1992)

- 1993 was Ryan's 27th Major league season

- At the time of the fight, Ryan had pitched 7 no hitters over three separate decades

- By 1993 Ryan had struck out 7 sets of father and sons - most notably Bobby and Barry Bonds

- Ryan had pitched during the Administrations of 7 different presidents at the time of the fight (Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton)
