Baseball Brawl of the Week: Varitek vs. A-Rod - 7/24/2004

There's nothing better than a good old fashioned bench clearing brawl. A refreshing nod to our primal ancestors and reminder that deep down we're all still animals. This week's edition of Brawl of the Week features the late July 2004 match up between Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek and Yankee 3 bagger Alex Rodriguez.

At the peak of the early 2000's Red Sox-Yankees rivalry these two teams genuinely hated each other. It was THE rivalry of the era so when Bronson Arroyo beamed A-Rod in the 3rd inning tempers were bound to flare. Rodriguez is seen clearly yelling "FUCK YOU" at Arroyo as he made his way to first base until Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek got in between the two. Varitek then pushes A-Rod and the two start to wrestle leading to a bench clearing scrum and another chapter of Yankees-Red Sox folklore.
