Damn J.R. Smith Had the Most J.R. Smith Play Ever Last Night
J.R. Smith has never been known for his defense. In fact, general awareness has never really been his strong suit, but his defensive gaffe last night against the Bucks may take the cake. With about 3 minutes to play in the 1st half, down by 1, J.R. Smith walked over to the Bucks bench to dap up Jason Terry. However, the Bucks happened to be in bounding the ball and promptly fed Tony Snell (Smith's man) for a wide open dunk. The bewildered look on his teammates' faces is truly priceless. It honestly might be the most atrocious piece of defending that I've ever seen at any level - it probably would have been more acceptable if he had just sat down on the court.
Smith's post game comments, when asked about the play, are vintage J.R. too. Initially, he tried to avoid the question before saying "Oh, I didn't know I was in the game. My bad." Didn't know you were in the game eh? I wish I could tell if this was a joke or not. This was all while J.R. wore a hoodie with a ski mask over his face (pictured). When questioned about his new look, Smith claimed it was his "alter-ego" and that it "was a gift from Ohio State." When he was asked if his 'alter-ego' had a name, J.R. replied "yes," but that he couldn't tell the reporters what it is.
Those who are familiar with J.R. Smith have come to expect the unexpected with him, so his bizarre antics last night shouldn't be completely shocking. However, the popular opinion has been that since his move to Cleveland he had matured under LeBron James's guidance. Although it would appear that last night the 'new' J.R. may have relapsed back to the Nuggets/Knicks J.R.
